Isuzu Thailand Teases Facelifted Isuzu MU-X Blue Power

Auto News

Isuzu Thailand, today released a short but detailed teaser video that all but masks the facelifted Isuzu MU-X seven-seater SUV, which is slated to be launched on March 4 for the Thai market, according to details on their website. The short teaser video also confirms the entry of the new 1.9-litre Ddi Blue Power engine for the seven-seater MU-X range.

First introduced on the Thai-market D-Max (with the MU-X is based on), the new RZ series 1.9-litre Ddi Blue Power will replace the outgoing model's 2.5-litre Ddi iTEQ engine. Despite having a smaller capacity, the new engine produces 150hp at 3,600rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1,800-2,600rpm. That's 20 hp and 30 Nm more than the outgoing 2.5-litre engine.

The 15-second video cuts across the front and rear of the car – crucially revealing new tube-style LED daytime-running lights for the head lights and new LED graphics on the tail lamps. Along the flanks, a new six-spoke design for the alloy wheels is also obvious from the video.

On the inside, the video gives us a glimpse of the interior, which is finished in Tan-coloured leather upholstery. The dashboard trim is highlighted in what looks to be a ‘pseudo’ wood panel now.

The Malaysian market MU-X model received a new variant late last year, called the Type S Special Edition, which was launched alongside the facelifted Isuzu D-Max pickup truck. Isuzu Malaysia introduced several updates such as the Ivory color leather seats and armrest, keyless entry and start, a new 8-inch display audio system and the new e-Lumax meter panel.

It's powered by the same 2.5-litre commonrail, direct injection turbo diesel iTEQ engine from the D-Max pickup.

This leaves the curious question if Isuzu Malaysia will match their Thai counterparts in offering the Blue Power power plants on the facelift MU-X, or simply revamps the SUV’s aesthetic features? Afterall, the MU-X is imported from Thailand.
