Honda’s All-New British-Built Civic Type R Is Headed For Sale In Japan

Auto News

Honda has announced that its new British-built Civic Type R will be heading for sale to customers in the automaker’s native Japan, reaching showrooms in the autumn. The move was made known through a recent speech by Takahiro Hachigo, Honda Motor Company CEO.

The first Civic Type R rolled off the assembly line at Honda’s new Swindon plant that received a RM1.18 billion (£200 million) investment from the company – it being the new global production hub for the new Civic five-door with a workforce of over 3,000 personnel.

Philip Ross, Senior Vice President for Honda Motor Europe, said, “We’re delighted that the European Civic Type R will be sold to customers in Honda’s home country of Japan. Customers are really excited about this car and we’re developing a significant order bank here in Europe. Exporting the car to Japan will only serve to increase demand further, which is great news!”

The all-new Civic Type R has Honda billing it a race car for the road. With it’s high-revving 2.0-litre VTEC TURBO engine producing a peak output of 306hp and 400Nm of torque, needing just 5.7 seconds to achieve the century sprint and propelling the car to a class-leading top speed of 270km/h.

It will be available in showrooms throughout Europe this summer with a starting price of £29,995 (or approximately RM178,051).
