Geneva 2019: All-New Mazda CX-4 Initial Details Revealed

Last week, Mazda dropped a lone teaser of an upcoming compact SUV, without revealing much information, leaving the public to speculate what the new model could be.

According to Australian news portal GoAuto, the upcoming model is expected to be positioned between the CX-3 and CX-5. In that sense, it’s almost a no-brainer that the new model will wear the CX-4 badge.

But wait, wasn’t the Mazda CX-4 already released in China? Yes, Mazda introduced the CX-4 as a China-specific model back in 2016, but the one teased here will likely share only the nameplate, nothing more, nothing less.

While the China-specific CX-4 was built on the larger CX-5 platform, the upcoming all-new CX-4 will be built on a newer SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture, the second model after the all-new 3. Just like the all-new Mazda 3, the upcoming CX-4 is also expected to be powered by the fancy new SkyActiv-X engine.

As for styling, we can expect the new model to get a more coupe-like roofline, as opposed to the boxier-looking CX-5. In addition to that, the upcoming CX-4 will be the next model after the 3 to adopt a more mature interpretation of the Mazda’s Kodo design language.

The 2019 edition of the Geneva Motor Show will start from 5^th March.
