Ferrari 488 Spider Revealed: Topless And Still Pushing 660 Horses

Auto News

Deploying the same twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 and most of everything else found in the regular version, here’s a look at Maranello’s Ferrari 488 Spider: the most powerful mid-engined Ferrari has now gone topless.

Structurally, the 488 Spider changes in no other area but its lacking fixed roof: slashing 25kg against a classic fabric soft-top model, and weighing nearly the same as its fixed-roof sibling. All in, the 488 Spider weighs just 1420kg: 10kg more than the coupe.

To go with the Ferrari’s infinite headroom here, is a roof that can retract and deploy similarly in 14 seconds an act. The aluminium spaceframe chassis and the combination of materials doesn’t compromise the retractable hard-top’s rigidity, and is in fact 23% stiffer than the 458 Spider.

Performance wise, the twin-turbo V8 gets the Spider from 0 to 100km/h in just three seconds, requiring only a total of 8.7 seconds before smashing 200km/h.
