Euro-Spec Honda Civic Type R Full Details Revealed

More details (and pictures!) of Honda’s hotly-anticipated 2015 Civic Type R has been released by the Japanese firm themselves, which will go on sale throughout Europe starting July this year. 

We’ve brought you details surrounding the all-new Honda hot hatch since the world first got wind of it, following its various leaks, previews, teasers and motor show unveils – now, Honda themselves have released detailed specifications and images of their “most extreme and high performing Type R ever built.”

Under the hood, we have the direct-injection turbocharged 2.0-litre VTEC engine which delivers 310PS at 6,500rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2,500rpm. Combining a turbocharger with Honda’s high-revving VTEC technology delivers an unrelenting power band, using varying degrees of exhaust valve lift to reduce turbo lag and an electronic waste gate to further improve responsiveness.

Aluminium construction of the pistons, VTEC rocker arms, forged connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft reduce overall rotational mass of the engine, which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The new Civic Type R needs just 5.7 seconds to achieve the century sprint and will go on to a top speed of 269km/h. Despite this, its C02 emissions are just 170 g/km and a fuel economy figure of 7.3-litres/100 km. A helical limited slip differential controls power distribution to the front wheels and aiding traction during hard cornering.  

A specially developed braking system is fitted courtesy of a collaboration between Honda and Brembo, all designed specifically for this car. It’s a four-piston calliper setup with 350mm drilled discs at the front, making them the largest ever installed to a production Type R model.

Its four-wheel Adaptive Damper System allows the car’s on-board computers to continuously monitor and alter dampening for each wheel to either increase comfort or maximize handling during hard driving. Its Dual Axis Strut Front Suspension system also enhances high speed stability and steering feel.

European buyers will have a choice of five colours for their Civic Type R: Championship White, Crystal Black (pearlescent), Polished Metal (metallic), Brilliant Sporty Blue (metallic) and Milano Red.

Inside there’s suede-trimmed sports seats with red double stitching, flat-bottomed steering wheel and the information-dense Multi Information Display (i-MID) which shows the driver Civic Type R-specific information such as the G-meter readout, brake pressure, boost pressure, oil pressure, water temperature, as well as lap and acceleration time, among others.

A new +R mode further increases chassis and engine response by tweaking its in-car parameters to offer the most performance-oriented drive.
