Car, Motorcycle Licence Applicants To Take Only One Malaysian Highway Code Test. Cheaper Fees As A Result

In a move by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said learner drivers are now only required to sit for the Malaysian Highway Code (MHC) test only once, instead of twice as previously experienced by those wanting to get both a car or motorcycle licence.

Upon passing the test and obtaining a temporary licence, learner drivers can then proceed with the on-the-road practical lessons. They will still be required to enrol for two separate courses, each for car and motorcycle before taking the test.

As a result, the JPJ expects the prices car and motorcycle licences to go down following the new regulation that a licence applicant need only sit for a single traffic law test.

Director-general of the JPJ, Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said, “The RTD will implement the system as soon as possible for the convenience of all parties and I think the fee for driving licences will be lower after this,” he told The Malay Mail.
