BMW Malaysia has just teased the BMW iX on their Instagram page, suggesting that if interest is sufficient, they might just bring in the BMW iX electric SUV earlier than expected. For those who think this is just a bit of flirting from BMW Malaysia, think again, because BMW Malaysia has a healthy track record of introducing their i sub-brand cars to Malaysia, namely the i3 electric hatchback and the i8 coupe back in 2019. The BMW iX was first introduced to the world back in November 2020 and will only begin its production at the end of this year. The iX is based on BMW's 2018 Vision iNext Concept car, which promised to bring forth an all-electric SUV with semi-autonomous capabilities. The Munich based brand has yet to disclose full details of the electric SUV, but from what little information they have chosen to release, we know that the SUV will have close to 500hp from its front and rear motors (AWD), which will allow it to do 0-100 km/h in under five seconds. Not surprisingly, there will be battery pack options, with the largest battery touted to have a capacity of over 100 kWh for over 600km of range. To juice up the battery, DC fast charging capability will be standard and is said to be able to load up the iX's battery with enough energy to provide a 120km driving range in just 10 minutes. This is not the iX's full driving range, as a full charge of 11 hours will give you the maximum 600km range. The fully electric BMW SUV is about the size of an X5, and its passenger and cargo space is expected to be similar to BMW's stalwart ICE (internal combustion engine) SUV. The iX's interior design seems to be both modern and simple, and we expect the SUV to come with a host of high-tech hardware, including a sizeable curved touchscreen instrument panel and a hexagonal-shaped steering wheel.
