BMW M2 Competition Makes Malaysian Debut, RM626,800, Available As Manual Too
Auto NewsBMW Malaysia today introduced the New BMW M2 Competition at the Sepang International Circuit.
Priced at RM 626,800, the M2 Competition, which can also be ordered with a 6-speed manual transmission, is powered by the same S55 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo engine as the M3 and M4, producing 410 hp and 550 Nm of maximum torque (40 hp and 85 Nm more than the outgoing model). Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M-DCT (double clutch transmission) with Drivelogic.
The Drivelogic system effectively combines two gearboxes, each with its own clutch, and enables ultra-smooth shifts with no interruption in the flow of power. In automatic and manual modes, Drivelogic provides the driver with a choice between preconfigured driving programmes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.
Thanks to the powertrain package, the car is able to sprint from zero to hundred in 4.2 seconds, and achieve a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Other mechanical improvements include the lubrication system, which comprises an oil sump cover that helps to limit the movement of lubricants upon sudden directional shift.
The cooling system of the New BMW M2 Competition is also improved with a transmission oil cooler that ensures ideal operating temperatures when on the streets and in the racetrack.
Weighing 1,575 kg, the M2 Competition features light-weight aluminium front and rear axles derived from the BMW M3 and BMW M4. Wheel location and tracking stability is further optimised by the motorsport-based solid-mounted rear subframe and forged-aluminium control arms.
Key exterior features of the M2 Competition include a sporty front bumper with large air intakes for optimum air flow, high-gloss black kidney grille, LED headlights and tail lamps, revised black chrome quad exhaust system, twin strut side mirrors, high-gloss black shadow lines instead of chrome, and 19-inch M light alloy wheels.
Inside, there are a few features that are unique to the M2 Competition. For example, for the first time, drivers will be able to use two selector switches in the central console to directly adjust various characteristics and settings for the engine, steering, and Drivelogic functions.
Other standard equipment include an 8.8-inch Navigation system Professional with Touch Display capability and BMW M Lap timer, dual-zone air conditioning, Harman Kardon HiFi audio system, as well as 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
Driver assistance is provided in the form of Cruise Control with intelligent braking function and Park Distance Control for front and rear to assist drivers with reverse parking and manoeuvring.
And then we have the red push-start ignition button, M seatbelts, M leather steering wheel, sports seats, carbon fibre trim, Dakota Leather upholstery, as well as M door sills.
Available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Long Beach Blue Metallic, Hockenheim Silver Metallic, and Sunset Orange Metallic exterior colour choices, the new M2 Competition is also available with BMW’s Balloon Financing Plan, where the car can be owned with monthly instalment plans starting from RM 7,158.00 (based on estimates of an 80% loan on a five-year tenure).
