BMW Introduces Updated 2017 BMW 1 Series

BMW has announced today that an updated 1 Series will go on sale in Europe starting July, featuring new special edition models, revised interior and updated iDrive operating system. As before, the updated 1 Series can be had either as a 3-door or 5-door version.

The company will introduce several new special edition models, like the Edition Sport Line Shadow, Edition M Sport Shadow and M140i Edition Shadow. These Shadow editions get BMW's signature kidney grille finished in black, LED headlights with black inserts and darkened LED tail lights. The BMW 1 Series Edition M Sport Shadow also receives black muffler tips. BMW says that the Sport Line, Urban Line and M Sport variants of the 1 Series will continue to be sold with the regular 1 Series. Two new body colours will be available, Seaside Blue and Sunset Orange.

The exterior of the new BMW 1 Series is further complemented by 16 different wheel designs. The BMW 1 Series Edition Sport Line Shadow receives exclusive 17-inch 725 light weight alloy wheels as standard, whilst the Edition M Sport Shadow gets 18-inch 719M wheels in Jet Black or Bicolour Jet Black. Last but not least is the M140i Edition Shadow, which receives 18-inch 436M Orbit Grey alloy wheels.

Inside, the instrument panel has been reworked, now with more emphasis on driver focus. The centre stack that contains the radio and air-conditioning controls now receive a new high-gloss black surface. The centre console also sees an update, with a roll cover now included for the cupholders. Contrast stitching, additional chrome trim and air vents for the air-conditioning further separate the new 1 Series from its predecessor.

In terms of infotainment, the new BMW 1 Series receives the latest iDrive operating system with iDrive Touch Controller. If customers opt for the Navigation Professional system, the central 8.8-inch display can be operated via the touchsreen, which is new. Voice Control is also available.

The BMW 1 Series remains the only hatchback in its segment to offer rear wheel drive, though that trait won't last for long as the next generation BMW 1 Series will come as a front-wheel drive model.
