BMW Concept 8 Series Arrives In ASEAN
Auto NewsFor the duration of the BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, BMW Malaysia is displaying the BMW Concept 8 Series, the vehicle’s first visit to ASEAN region.
The Concept 8 Series, first displayed at last year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event, serves as taster to the upcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe which is slated for launch this year as part of the biggest model offensive in BMW’s history.
The BMW Concept 8 Series showcases a new approach to the use of forms, reflected prominently in the car’s surfacing. A handful of crisp lines mark out clear surfaces, and the car’s volumes are powerfully sculpted. Together, these elements equate to an outstanding model overflowing with charm.
Instantly recognizable as a BMW through the large grilles that extend downwards, together with the super-slim laser headlights, the front of the BMW Concept 8 Series forms a striking, sporty front-end graphic.
Meanwhile, the rear is defined by the chemistry between volumes and lines, which extend around from the edges and shape the rear section of the car. The powerful wheel arches hint at the car’s dynamic talents and announce its rear-wheel drive layout.
Inside, the BMW Concept 8 Series biggest technical highlight is the full digital information display. The steering wheel also sports red-anodised shift paddles and plenty of red stitching around the interior. All four occupants also get sport seats covered in fine leather and special pattern motif.
The shift lever and iDrive controller are made from Swarovski glass with a smoky quartz look treat the interior to some modern and classy finishing touches.
Once launched, expect to see the 4.4-litre V8 provide power for the 850i and even the M8. A smaller 3.0-litre 840i might even join the line-up. Competitors of the new 8 series Coupe include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, Lexus LC 500 and Maserati Gran Turismo.
The display of the BMW Concept 8 Series is part of BMW’s focus on luxury and brand presence. The BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion showcases the BMW brand’s extensive expertise in contemporary luxury, high-quality design and fine craftsmanship in a unique setting that brings customers on a journey of exclusivity and sophistication.
The BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion is also presented by partners Dior, Hugo Boss, Moet Hennessy Diageo, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Wei-Ling Gallery, Leica, illy Coffee, and SPACE.
