Beijing 2018: Audi Unveils Q5L Long Wheelbase Model Specifically For China

Audi has just presented its first ever long wheelbase SUV, the Q5L, at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show.

Made specifically for customers in China, the Audi Q5L’s wheelbase and exterior length have each increased by 88 millimeters compared to the regular version. This benefits passengers in the rear seat, who gain an additional 110 millimeters of knee room.

The volume of the luggage compartment however, remains unchanged at 1,550 liters tops.

Power comes from the four-cylinder Turbo 2.0 TFSI engine which is offered in two configurations – a 190 hp version which enables the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, and a 252 hp version which brings the Q5L from standstill to 100 in 6.7 seconds.

A standard seven-speed S tronic gearbox transfers power to the quattro AWD system with ultra-technology, which is also standard across the board.

Offered in 5 trim levels - Vogue, Lifestyle, Design, Sport and Sport plus - standard features include 5 driving modes, the Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense city safety systems, a panoramic roof, three-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning, and the Audi smartphone interface.

Starting with the Lifestyle model line, the MMI navigation plus and the Audi virtual cockpit are added. The Design, Sport and Sport plus on the other hand, get Bang & Olufsen audio System with 3D sound.

Similar to the normal wheelbase Q5, Audi produces the Q5L in a joint venture with FAW-VW in CKD production in the Changchun plant in northern China, where a part of the prefabricated components come from Audi's plant in San José Chiapa, Mexico.

With the new Q5L, which is Audi’s fourth long wheelbase model in China after the A4L, A6L, and the A8L, the brand said that it is seeking to further expand its strong position in the Chinese SUV market.
