Bangkok 2017: The Honda Civic Hatchback In The Flesh

Besides the fifth-generation Honda CR-V which was recently launched in Thailand, Honda’s large stand at the 2017 Bangkok Motor Show also allows us to get up close with some of their other models as well, such as the much vaunted Honda Civic Hatchback.

The well-received Civic hatchback has garnered bookings of more than 35,000 units globally within a year of its launch. Based on the formidable underpinnings of the sedan model, the Civic Hatchback’s combination of sporty design and well-designed versatility is proving to be a hit in the European market and closer to home in Thailand as well.

The Thai-assembled Civic hatchback is priced at THB 1,169 million (RM148k), and as our sister site Auto Spinn recently confirmed, will be exported to other markets in later stages.

 The Civic hatchback is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with Honda's famed VTEC technology, the engine delivers 173hp at 5,500rpm and maximum torque of 220Nm between 1,700 and 5,500rpm. The engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Visually, the Civic hatchback gets a sportier front bumper with larger fog lamp enclosures and more aggressive front skirt design. The grille is finished in high-gloss black, versus the chrome units on the sedan. The Thai market is also offered with a Black Midnight Burgundy Pearl highlight colour exclusive for the hatchback model.
