Mitsubishi Motor's soon to be launched all-new 2015 Triton has just been awarded the maximum five-stars by Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
The all-new Triton has already been launched in Thailand, Australia and New Zealand, and will be making its entry into Malaysia sometime next month.
The Australian market Triton tested by ANCAP is imported from Thailand. Standard passive safety features include dual frontal, side chest, side head airbags (curtains) and a driver's knee airbag.
Electronic stability control (ESC) is also fitted as standard.
The all-new Triton's strong body structure did well in both frontal, side and pole impact test - scoring 15.22 out of 16 for frontal impact, 16 out of 16 for side impact, and 2 out of 2 for pole impact.
ANCAP praised Mitsubishi for improving the safety standards of its light commercial vehicle (LCV) models.
"In terms of safety, LCVs continue to lag passenger vehicles with 57% of LCVs sold holding the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating. In comparison, 90% of new passenger vehicles sold are 5 star rated," said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Mr Nicholas Clarke.
"This 5 star rating for the high-selling Triton is a great achievement as this will translate to increased safety on worksites and on our roads," said Mr Clarke.
