All-New Subaru WRX S4 And WRX STI Launched In Japan
Auto NewsFuji Heavy Industries the manufacturer of Subaru models has launched the all-new WRX S4 and its higher performance twin, the WRX STI in Japan. The performance-biased 2014 Subaru WRX STI is already available in Malaysia, but there is a difference between the Japanese market model compared to what we get here. The more comfort-biased WRX S4 however, is very different than the regular WRX that it is based on. Japanese Spec WRX STI The only difference between the Japanese-spec WRX STI compared to ours comes from its engine. It is powered by the 2.0-litre EJ20 turbo Boxer engine that outputs 308hp and 422Nm, whereas ours is powered by 2.5-litre EJ25 motor that develops 8hp and 15Nm less. Besides that, the rest of the car is similar to what we get here. All-New WRX S4 The all-new WRX S4 may look like our local-spec WRX, but it has more power and better equipment. Compared to the WRX STI, the WRX S4 is more luxury-focused, with better safety and comfort features Powering the S4 is the same 2.0-litre direct injected turbo (DIT) FA-series engine found in the regular WRX. In the S4 tune, it pumps out 300hp and 400Nm, which very close to the 2014 Subaru WRX STI we get here. Power is sent to all four-wheels via a Sport Lineartronic CVT gearbox. Thanks to new front bumper and new 18-inch wheel designs, styling wise, the new model now looks far more aggressive and sporty. It's also the first WRX model to be equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system, which improves safety. Other features include electronic parking brakes, Active Lane Keep, Pre-Collision Reverse Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control and Brake Light Recognition. The cabin is pretty much similar to the regular WRX, while leather seats are however available on certain trim levels. As of now the WRX S4 is only available in Japan; if or not it becomes available to other market is yet to be known. This article first appeared on our sister-site Live Life Drive.
