All-New Perodua Myvi D20N Launched; 1.3L, 1.5L, RM44k – RM55k
Auto NewsBarely a week after giving us a teaser at the Malaysia Autoshow 2017, Perodua has officially unveiled the all-new third-generation Myvi today. As previously reported, the all-new Myvi is available with a choice of five variants with engine capacities ranging from 1.3 to 1.5 litres and priced from RM44,300 to RM55,300.
Underpinnings are nominally based on the predecessor’s platform, but with as much as 70 percent of its components thoroughly reworked. Whilst the hard points are carried over, the chassis is reinforced for added strength, and the upper body and interior is fully-redesigned by Perodua as a largely in-house effort.
Engines – 1.3 & 1.5-litre NR-series Dual VVT-i
Powering the all-new Myvi are 1.3- and 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engines from Toyota’s all-aluminium NR-series family manufactured at the Daihatsu Perodua Engine Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (DPEM) plant in Sendayan, Negri Sembilan.
The 1.3-litre 1NR-VE engine, available in conjunction with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, is rated with outputs of 95 PS and 121 Nm – identical numbers to its application in the Bezza. Auto start/stop is available in the higher of the two trim grades of 1.3-litre engine.
The 1.5-litre 2NR-VE engine, meanwhile, is paired exclusively to a 4-speed auto and comes standard with auto start/stop. It is rated with outputs of 103 PS and 136 Nm. Although built on the same block, it is not exactly the same engine as the slightly more potent 2NR-FE mill powering the Toyota Vios with 107 PS and 140 Nm.
Both engine versions of the Myvi are certified as energy efficient vehicles (EEV) with official rated fuel consumption ranging from 4.7 to 5.0 litres/100km, supposedly making it 32% more efficient than the outgoing model.
Dimensions
The all-new Myvi’s grows a significantly larger footprint than its predecessor; gaining 205 mm lengthwise and 70 mm across its width to measure 3,895 mm long by 1,735 mm wide. It sits lower, however, contracting 30 mm in height to measure 1,515 mm tall. Wheelbase measures 2,500 mm, a 60 mm gain from the predecessor.
Boot space is a commendable 277 litres, up from the predecessor’s 208 litres, and edging ahead of the Axia’s 260 litres. It’s nowhere near the 363 litres claimed by the Honda Jazz though.
Further adding to its versality, the split-folding rear seats and front passenger seats can be arranged in 8+1 different configurations, the ‘+1’ referring to a lounging mode usable only when the vehicle is stationary.
Major Leap In Safety
Safety receives a substantial boost with the all-new Myvi – all variants come standard with seat belt reminders for all seats, a minimum of four airbags and electronic stability control; 1.5-litre models additionally get curtain airbags.
The range-topping 1.5 AV model gets the advanced safety assist (A.S.A.) package that provides pre-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, pedal misoperation control, and front departure warning.
Thanks to its much-improved safety, the all-new Myvi receives a five-star rating from ASEAN NCAP according to the latest, more stringent 2017 protocols.
Amenities and creature comforts are given a boost too – digital climate control display, keyless entry, and LED headlamps are fitted standard across the board, whilst 1.5-litre variants get the convenience of an integrated Smart Tag.
