All-New 2017 Mazda CX-5 CKD Launched In Malaysia – Petrol, Diesel, 162hp to 192hp, RM134k – RM175k

The all-new second-generation Mazda CX-5 has just been launched in Malaysia. Continuing from its well-received predecessor, the new CX-5 hits the ground running as a locally-assembled model rolling out from the Inokom Kulim plant.

As reported earlier on Carlist.my, on-the-road prices of the all-new CX-5 excluding insurance are as follows:

• 2.0 Petrol 2WD GL – RM134,205.50
• 2.0 Petrol 2WD GLS – RM148,205.50
• 2.5 Petrol 2WD GLS – RM160,596.70
• 2.2 Diesel 2WD GLS – RM164,179.10
• 2.2 Diesel AWD GLS – RM174,779.10

The above prices apply for vehicles finished in solid paint, with metallic paint adding RM400 to the list price. Customers can also choose between three premium metallic colours – Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Snowflake White Pearl – for an additional RM2,000.

These new high-grade colours are available for the first time in locally-assembled Mazda models in Malaysia with the setting up of a new dedicated paint shop facility in the Inokom Kulim plant.

Powertrain selection is carried over from the outgoing model, consisting of the 2.0- and 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engines alongside the range-topping 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel. Output numbers are summarized below:

• 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G Petrol: 162 hp / 210 Nm
• 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G Petrol: 192 hp / 257 Nm
• 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D Diesel: 173 hp / 420 Nm

All engines come standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Default driveline configuration is front-wheel drive, with the option of all-wheel drive offered exclusively to the diesel model.

Mazda’s new G-Vectoring Control software is standard in all variants of the CX-5 in Malaysia. The system works by gently retarding throttle inputs around a corner to induce a forward pitching effect of the vehicle’s weight, thereby pressing down harder on the front wheels to provide more mechanical grip.

Equipment-wise, the CX-5 is starts off with a heavily-loaded base 2.0 2WD GL model. Above it, the 2.0 and 2.5 2WD GLS slot in as the mid-range offerings - both these grades come with identical equipment and are differentiated from each other only by the size of their rims - 17 vs 19 inches. Topping the range are the 2.2 Diesel 2WD and AWD models, both of which come the full i-Activesense safety package.
