2021 Proton Exora Black Edition Launched - RM67,800

Proton has kicked off the new year with a series of special edition models for 2021, neatly divided between four models, half of which receiving the sportier R3 treatment while the Persona and, more specifically, the Exora, receive a dash of elegance with the Black Editions.

Priced at RM69,800 but, due to the current sales tax exemption, is offered with a special on-the-road price of RM67,800, temporarily making it just RM1,000 more than the typical sticker price of the Exora Premium on which it’s based.

The MPV's unique cosmetic changes start with the colour scheme and this newest Exora is finished in a new Quartz Black exterior with matte or gloss black garnishes on the front fascia with bronze-like gold highlights that are on display on the outside and its interior.

The wheels too are finished in this new highlight shade of bronze-like gold, but otherwise are the same 16-inch alloys found on the Exora Premium. Inside, the leatherette seats are finished in black but given contrast stitching to match the Black Edition’s colour palette.

This shade is also used for the centre stack to frame the touchscreen and primary air conditioning vents, which are also given a gloss black outer ring to match the gear level surround and the accents on the gear knob itself.

Black leatherette seats are now uniform in texture with the material spread across the bolsters and main padding. On the door panels, though, the textured inlays are replaced with perforated leatherette with the same contrast stitching.

There are no mechanical changes to separate the Black Edition from the Exora Premium, so under the bonnet we find an unaltered version of the 1.6-litre CFE turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 140PS and 205Nm, sent to the front wheels via a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

A new addition to the cabin is the overhead monitor. The fold-out screen is mounted on the vehicle’s ceiling to deliver a more comprehensive entertainment package to rear passengers. As before on the Exora Premium, the 7-inch infotainment system supports online navigation, music streaming, weather forecasting, and voice commands through its 4G and WiFi connectivity.

A reversing camera also comes as standard, along with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and dual front SRS airbags. The Proton Exora Black Edition is available for booking now.
