2017 Mercedes-Benz E350e Plug-in Hybrid Coming To Malaysia In Q3, Below RM400k
Auto NewsAt this morning’s launch of the locally-assembled version of the W213 generation all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia made a surprise announcement that the E350e plug-in will soon join the E-Class’ expanding line-up later this year, replacing the fully-imported E300.
Like the E200 Avantgarde, E250 Avantgarde and E250 Exclusive, the E350e will also be locally-assembled at the company’s vehicle assembly facility within the DRB-Hicom plant in Pekan, Pahang.
The E350e is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine (shared with the E250) paired to a 65 kW, 440 Nm electric motor nestled within the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.
The engine alone produces 211 hp and 350 Nm. Together with the electric motor, the system produces a total ouput of 286 hp and 550 Nm. As with all hybrids/plug-in hybrids, the total system output is less than the arithmetic sum of the engine and electric motor’s output because the two peak at different speeds.
Curiously, the 9G-Tronic transmission E350e produces 50 Nm less torque than the 7G-Tronic transmission C350e, but as a consolation, the E350e produces 7 hp more power.
Powering the traction motor and storing the recovered energy during braking/coasting is a 6.2 kWh lithium-ion traction battery mounted behind the car. A full charge using a European domestic power socket takes about 3 hours, while a fast charging wall box can shorten this to 1.5 hours.
With the traction battery fully charged, the E350e has an all-electric driving range of about 30 km. The rated fuel consumption on a European test cycle is 2.1-litre/100 km, but of course, real-world fuel consumption will be easily more than twice as high.
Since the E350e sits at the top of the E-Class sedan range, we expect the E350e to feature many more features than the E200 and E250.
Our local E350e will come fitted with the following items:
- AMG Line exterior with Night Package
- 19-inch AMG light alloy wheels
- AIRMATIC suspension
- Active Brake Assist
- MULTIBEAM LED headlamps
- Panaromic sliding glass roof
- KEYLESS GO hands-free access
- Burmester High-end surround sound system
- AMG Sports steering wheel
- Nappa leather upholstery
- AMG Line interior
Deliveries are expected to begin in Q3 this year, with an estimated pricing of no more than RM400,000.
