2017 Honda City Hybrid Launched In Malaysia, Priced From RM89,200

Honda Malaysia has introduced a new hybrid variant of the Honda City earlier today. This is the second hybrid Honda model introduced this year, following the June's debut of the Honda Jazz Hybrid.

As with the Jazz Hybrid, Malaysia is the only country outside of Japan to introduce the City Hybrid.

Priced from RM89,200 (excluding insurance), the City Hybrid shares the same 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine as the Jazz Hybrid. In place of the standard petrol powered-only Jazz/City's CVT-type automatic transmission, the City Hybrid (and Jazz Hybrid) uses a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) mated to a 22 kW electric motor that sends drive to the front wheels. Together with the petrol engine, the petrol-electric hybrid combination makes 137 PS and 170 Nm, which Honda Malaysia says is equivalent to a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated engine.

Unlike the previous IMA generation Honda hybrids, this City Hybrid (and Jazz Hybrid) is a full-hybrid, meaning that it is able to accelerate from standstill in electric power alone for a smoother stop-go traffic driving. The air-conditioning compressor is also electrically driven, meaning that the air-conditioning’s cooling performance will remain optimal even when the petrol engine is shutdown.

Compared to the cheaper RM84,800 Jazz Hybrid, the City Hybrid comes equipped with paddle shifters.

Inside, the Honda City Hybrid is differentiated from the standard City by an advanced 3D meter designed that displays Energy Flow, Sport Meter, Fuel Economy, Drive Info and ECO Display. The gear knob is also different, using an electronic shift-by-wire type which works more like a joystick rather than the conventional City's mechanically linked gear knob.

Impressively, the hybrid variant does not compromise in boot space - boasting an identical 536 litres of cargo carrying capacity.

Priced from RM89,200, the Honda City Hybrid is backed by a 5 year warranty with unlimited mileage. The City Hybrid's battery has an 8 year warranty in addition to the standard warranty.
