2016 Honda Civic launches in Thailand – 1.8 i-VTEC and 1.5 VTEC Turbo variants available

Auto News

A mere six months from its global debut, the tenth-generation Honda Civic makes its debut in our region having just been launched in Thailand, which becomes the first country outside North America to receive the model.

The first Honda model to be produced in Honda’s new Prachinburi plant, the all-new 2016 Civic features Honda’s new 1.5-litre twin-cam VTEC Turbo is its flagship engine, producing 173hp @ 5,500rpm and 220Nm @ 1,700 – 5,500rpm.

Alternatively, the existing model’s naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine is carried over producing mildly improved outputs of 141hp @ 6,500rpm and 174Nm @ 4,300rpm. For the Thai market, this engine is tuned to be compatible with E85 fuel.

Both engines come standard with Honda’s new in-house developed Earth Dreams CVT that replaces the tried and trusted 5-speed automatic transmission used in the present model. As far as engine and drivetrain are concerned, we expect the same combinations to be offered in the Malaysian market.

Depending on variant, the Thai market 2016 Civic comes fitted with the following features,

  • LED daytime running lights and C-shaped tail lights
  • 7-inch Display Audio Touchscreen – Bluetooth, USB, Apple CarPlay
  • Multi-Info Display
  • Engine Remote Start
  • Honda LaneWatch
  • Electronic Parking Brake
  • Auto Brake Hold
  • Smart keyless entry with Walk Away Auto Lock

Honda is offering a total of four variants of the Civic in the Thai market:

  • 1.8 E – THB 869,000
  • 1.8 EL – THB 959,000
  • Turbo – THB 1,099,000
  • Turbo RS – THB 1,199,000
