2015 Hyundai Genesis Launched In Malaysia: 3.8L V6 From RM400k
Buying GuidesWe’ve known it to be in Malaysia for some time now, while Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) have carried out their internal tests of it, whilst also having one unit for reserved for the use by its Head of Asia & Pacific Regional Headquarters, Mr Park Sang-Min.
Now, here is HSDM finally launching the luxury sedan in Malaysia, at a price that rivals even the BMW 5 Series (528i M Sport: RM418k). The going price for the Genesis begins from RM399,888 (OTR with insurance) – RM388,921 OTR without insurance.
Buyer’s Guide:
While this is a premium luxury sedan from HSDM we have here, typically reserved for the US and European markets, bear in mind however that it isn’t the premier flagship model from Hyundai: there’s still the Equus. Even still, the Genesis is pretty hot stuff in its own right.
Apart from its big V6 engine and sharp styling, the Genesis is also a showcase of some of Hyundai’s latest and greatest in creature comforts. Many of which HSDM has retained for our local-spec car, which sort of explains the rather high price point: you could pretty much have your pick of German sedans for the same money.

Performance:
Powering the Genesis is a naturally-aspirated 3.8-litre GDI V6 from Hyundai’s Lambda family of engines. Paired with ann eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission, the Genesis puts down 315PS @ 6,000rpm and 397Nm of torque @ 5,000rpm. Yes, those are very flattering figures in favour of the Genesis against the similarly-priced BMW 528i, which delivers 245hp and 350Nm of torque – not forgetting that the 528i runs a 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower four-pot engine.
Exterior Styling:
Pretty, isn’t it? The Genesis is an embodiment of Hyundai’s latest Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, which makes it all a bit familiar, having seen the all-new Hyundai Sonata in Malaysia recently.
There’s no shortage of premium refinement on the exterior of the vehicle, showing off stylish HID auto-levelling projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights smartly integrated into the headlamps, a black with chrome coated front grille, LED foglamps, rear LED combination lamps and more.
The boot lid operates similarly to the Hyundai Sonata, in which it’s a Hands-Free Smart Trunk opening system. All you do is stand at the rear of the vehicle with your key fob on you (in your pocket etc.) and walla, it opens.
Interior Design:
The exciting equipment list doesn’t stop inside the vehicle, either. A Lexicon Logic 7 Matrix Surround System with 14 speakers have been specified for your entertainment, along with an eight-inch colour TFT display touchscreen. And on top of having a rear-view camera, HSDM has done one better by specifying an Around-View Monitor as well.
Upholstery is a full premium Nappa leather arrangement all around, with the two front seats being power adjustable. As a bonus, all seats in the house are ventilated.
HSDM have mentioned that the total interior volume of the Genesis, which is 3,482 litres, is a “key advantage over its competitors,” but they haven’t stated exactly who their competitors are for this vehicle – unofficially, we were told that HSDM are targeting the 5 Series, E-Class and Audi A6. They’ve also gone on to say that the Genesis features “best-in-class leg room and rear shoulder room.”
Specific for drivers to get the most out of their driving data is a seven-inch LCD TFT supervision cluster, and the convenience of a Head-Up Display system.
For the rest of the Genesis’ passengers, there’s a large panorama sunroof up top that lets all the light you need into the cabin.
Safety Features:
For safety, the Genesis packs a full suite of nine airbags, and Hyundai’s complete range of Vehicle Stability Management features, which include: Electronic Stability Control, ABS braking with Brake Assist System, Traction Control, and Hill-Start Assist. There’s also a Blind Spot Detection system and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
On longer drives, drivers will get to enjoy a Smart Cruise Control system which enables the vehicle to cruise automatically whilst maintaining a safe distance to vehicles ahead of itself.
A 360-degree Around View Monitoring System is also equipped, and if that wasn’t enough to make your parking a breeze, there’s a Smart Parking Assist system which can totally take control over from the driver, and park all by itself.
The sum of these features gives the Genesis its proclaimed title of the “highest safety score in ANCAP history: a full five-star rating.
