10,000 Road Tax Stickers And 1,500 Car Grants Smuggled Out From State JPJ, Two Officers Among Those Detained

The Negeri Sembilan state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has revealed that more than 10,000 blank road tax stickers were smuggled out of the state’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) between November 2014 and March this year by a syndicate.

As reported by The Malay Mail Online, the state MACC also found that 1,500 car grants were issued without authorisation.

Among the four suspects detained during ‘Ops Photostat’ which aimed to crackdown on cloned cars in the country were two JPJ staff who were believed to be issuing grants for cloned cars while the remaining two suspects are believe to be acting as middlemen.

The original road tax stickers were sold by the syndicate at prices between RM450 and RM800 while car grants would fetch up to RM1,200 each.

State MACC director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap said investigations were continuing, and urged owners of cloned cars in the state to surrender their vehicles voluntarily to the MACC’s office to avoid action.
