The reasoning behind the four year time frame to put the law into effect is because there are certain procedures that must be undertaken before beginning with gaining public feedback within two years and another two years to trial the enforcement, he told reporters from The News Strait Times. This refutes an earlier proposal by the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) to make the use of child seats in cars compulsory by 2017. Aziz added that child seats have become a bigger necessity following a statistic from 2013, where out of 53 road accidents involving children in that year, 13 have died. Malaysia is a member of the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations (WP29) and as such, should adopt the rules of the United Nations as a quality benchmark for automobiles. In the beginning of 1st January 2015, all car makers are required to adhere to the ISOFIX standard in their vehicles.
