Toyota Hits 10 Million Unit Milestone for Hybrid Vehicles
Berita KeretaHybrid vehicles have come a long way since their humble beginnings, and ever since Toyota has managed to make it popular and mainstream other brands have followed through to produce their own hybrid models- both in order to meet regulations and to meet the requirements of an advancing demographic. Toyota has stuck with their Hybrid Synergy Drive (or Toyota Hybrid System) technology and developed it through each generation of Prius in order to better deploy it in other models within the Toyota range. As the system becomes more compact and compatible, it can more readily be integrated into other products- a key to reducing emissions on the whole.
What's even more impressive than hitting their 10 million hybrid vehicle milestone in January is the fact that it was only last April that Toyota reached their 9 million hybrid vehicle sales mark. In a little under 1 year, they have produced and sold over 1 million hybrid vehicles- a true testament to their popularity across the world. Toyota estimates that the use of Toyota’s HVs 2 in lieu of conventional gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance has resulted in approximately 77 million fewer tons 3 of CO 2 emissions and has saved approximately 29 million kiloliters of gasoline.
Malaysia alone has contributed roughly 15,000 units to that 10 million unit figure. Between 2009 and 2014, UMW Toyota provided customers here with the third generation Prius and the Prius C, although both models were phased out when the government removed the hybrid incentive and the hybrid vehicles became prohibitively expensive.
