Toyota Hilux, Innova, Fortuner To Be Launched In Malaysia In Q2 and Q3 2016

The much anticipated launch of Toyota’s all-new IMV models in Malaysia – Hilux, Innova and Fortuner, is expected to happen in stages between Q2 and Q3 this year.

This is according to information revealed in the latest Equity Focus report by RHB Research Institute.

IMV stands for Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle, a very large scale multi-continent project started by Toyota in the late ‘90s with the objective of developing three vehicles – a pick-up truck, SUV and MPV – from the same durable ladder frame chassis that’s better suited for the rough road conditions and heavy loading requirements that’s typical in developing markets.

IMV models are produced in South East Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia), Africa (South Africa), and South America (Argentina).

It is not known yet if the all-new 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre GD-series diesel engines will make their debut in the all-new Hilux and Fortuner, as the poor quality of our local diesels remain a concern. Mitsubishi for example, have elected to forgo the 2.4-litre MIVEC for the all-new Triton.

Although Euro-5 and higher quality diesel fuels are available in certain locations, manufacturers have to take into consideration its availability nationwide.
