The Perodua Myvi continues to lead the overall sales of vehicles produced by Perodua for the whole of 2021, followed by the Axia and Bezza.

Perodua's sales in December increased by 13% to 22,940 units from 20,299 vehicles in November 2021 as the response to the intermittent supply disruptions caused by Covid-19 began to show positive results.

Yet for annual sales, Perodua recorded 190,291 vehicles in 2021, down 13.6% from 220,154 units sold in 2020 following Covid-19, semiconductor chip supply disruptions and the recent floods.

"We thank our customers for their support and understanding, especially those who have been waiting patiently for their Perodua vehicle. God willing, deliveries will further improve in the coming months," said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato' Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

He continued on by saying that the 190,291 registrations were below the target of 200,000 units for 2021 as the challenge was more significant than expected.

"Despite the lower than expected performance for 2021, our countermeasures for the impact of Covid-19 has proven successful so far as we and our suppliers are dynamically cooperating and coordinating our efforts to ensure interruptions are minimised".

"These efforts include having a ready team of personnel to take active countermeasures at an alternate site if a supplier is under lockdown and also by allocating Perodua staff to shore up any suppliers that need temporary manpower replacements".

On the overall overview of the industry, Zainal said the total industry volume (TIV) for the year would also see a similar sales impact with an estimated decrease of 23.6% to 504,536 units from 528,172 units sold in 2020.

He also informed that the sales target forecast of 240,000 for 2022 announced last December will also be revised to take into account the latest developments and events as a consideration.

"In December, we forecasted a 240,000 sales target for 2022, however, we will likely review that figure later this month (January) as we are taking into account the latest developments and events into consideration," he said.

Meanwhile, Perodua received a response from about 1,675 owners regarding the Perodua Flood Relief programme, where their vehicles are currently being inspected at Perodua service centres nationwide.

"The Perodua Flood Assistance programme, which was announced by the Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Ismail Sabri on 26 December 2021, has drawn a lot of interest from the public".

"Our priority now is to work with the insurance companies as well as our other partners to hasten any approval process needed to repair and restore the flood damaged vehicles. We understand that most of our customers rely on their Perodua for their daily activities and we will do our best to assist," he said.
