The Final Breed, Land Rover Defender Limited Edition Launched In Malaysia

All good things must come to an end, so the saying goes. Even great things, it seems, have finite lifespan. The Land Rover Defender, having been in production in one iteration or the other, has definitely crossed the threshold to achieve ‘greatness’ - and sadly, its production is ending. 

Before the lights go out on that particular production line by the end of this year, however, the Land Rover Defender limited edition is a swan song to the iconic 4x4 and has launched in Malaysia under Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia. 

It is essentially a Double Cab pickup version of the Land Rover Defender that has been fitted with exclusive items. They include a chequer plate set, roof rack, raised air intake, side protection runners, A-frame protection bar and kit installation, a set of four spotlights, rear step bumper assembly, 9.5cti WARN electric winch and accessories kit, bumper mounting, a set of five off-road tyres as being finished in a coat of special Black Santorini paint.

While the Land Rover Defender Limited Edition is priced at RM153,888, the Limited Edition Accessories Package that elevates it above the standard Defender is priced at RM65,388 - raising the full price to RM219,276, inclusive of labour charges and 6 percent GST. 

The Defender Limited Edition will be customised to order and available from any Sime Darby AutoConneXion Sdn Bhd or SISMA Auto Sdn Bhd dealerships. 

For current Land Rover Defender owners, the Limited Edition Accessories Package is also available for purchase and is able to be retrofitted onto their own cars to transform them into real ‘go anywhere’ machines in addition to being available for sale individually. Originally, the package was sold at RM79,000 but during the promotion period from now until 31st December 2015, the price is reduced to RM65,388. 

According to JLRM managing director Tuan Syed Mudzhar Syed Ali, the accessories would be fitted by trained technicians and covered by warranty, except for the paint job and off-road tyres.

 “This special Land Rover Defender Limited Edition is a tribute to a much-loved 4X4 icon as the last of the current Land Rover Defenders will roll-off the production lines by the end of the year, marking the end of an era.  There is no better time than now to buy this collectors’ vehicle,” he said.
