Spyshots: 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W205) Facelift Shows Off New Design LED Headlights

An updated version of the current generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class is well underway, with European spy photographers catching glimpses of a barely-camouflaged prototype undergoing validation tests in winter surroundings.

Whilst its front bumper remains heavily shrouded, little else of the car’s exterior is left to the imagination. The pictured vehicle features the classic Mercedes grille with active shutters and sports new design LED headlamps – the LED daytime running strip also seems thicker than the current model.

The tail lights have been revised too, the LEDs re-arranged to form a double-C-shaped illumination signature from the back.

There are no apparent changes to the vehicle’s sheet metal.

First introduced in 2014, the W205 C-Class now enters its third year of sale and continues to become Mercedes-Benz’s best-seller worldwide.

This midlife facelift of the C-Class should be in the final stages of development as Mercedes looks to toughen it against an all-new BMW 3 Series expected to arrive sometime next year.

The W205 facelift is expected to debut later this year in sedan guise progressively followed by its siblings in estate, coupe, and cabriolet body styles at later dates. In conjunction with the facelift, Mercedes is also likely to introduce powertrains from its new modular engine family to the C-Class range - so expect an all-new range of 2.0-litre inline-4 and 3.0-litre inline-6 mills to run the show.
