Porsche pays tribute to the 356 with the Vision 357

Ever heard of the Porsche 356, the brand's first-ever sports car envisioned by Ferry Porsche? How do you pay tribute to something that magnificent?

As the brand approaches the 75th-year anniversary of the 356, they've come up with this - the Porsche Vision 357. A car that conforms to no rules with the sole purpose of paying homage to the legendary 356.

Monolithic form in the present day

The hardworking folks at the Style Porsche Team gave birth to the Porsche Vision 357 without imposing any current regulations when it comes to designing a series model. By bringing back the 356's monolithic form into the present day, it's a mashup between tradition and innovation - something that Ferry Porsche himself might've been proud of.

According to Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, "We created a very special birthday present in the form of the Porsche Vision 357, one which uses the 356 as a basis to underscore the significance of our design DNA. The design study is an attempt to combine the past, present and future with coherency, featuring proportions that are reminiscent of its historical archetype and details that visualise the outlook for the future."

Beating with the heart of a 718 Cayman GT4 RS

While the form of the Porsche Vision 357 extensively uses the 356 as its main design DNA, the beating heart hiding underneath all that smooth and sleek exterior is taken directly from the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

The 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated straight-six engine is said to produce 500PS and 450Nm of torque paired with a redline of 9,000rpm. Quite a masterpiece, the Porsche Vision 357, one that will be in the special "75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars" exhibition at this year's VW Group 'Drive' Forum event in Berlin.

The longer you look at the Vision 357, the more you'll notice its many outstanding design details that combine the brand's past, present, and future. Things like the windscreen design that seems to wrap around the A-pillars which sort of portray a helmet visor, rear grille pattern, and more.

And with this particular writer who's suddenly into grey, the combo of Ice Grey Metallic and Givola Grey Metallic is the sweetest icing on the cake, especially dressed over a set of 20-inch magnesium wheels covered in carbon fibre hubcaps. Simply outstanding, wouldn't you agree?
