Berita Kereta Ferdinand | May 11, 2021 08:23 AM After their initial foray (and a very successful one at that) into electrification with the Porsche Taycan, Porsche is preparing for their next BEV in the shape of the Macan, which is expected to arrive in 2023. The Porsche Macan EV will be built on a new Volkswagen Group platform that will underline all future electric models from Porsche and Audi. Dubbed the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), Porsche is currently testing prototypes of the Macan. The Porsche Macan EV is rumoured to have significantly more range than the Taycan (the current longest range of any Taycan variant is the RWD Taycan which has a WLTP range of 484 km with the Performance Battery Plus upgrade). The ICEV 2021 Porsche Macan will arrive later this year and both ICEV and BEV options of the Macan will be sold side by side for the foreseeable future. The Macan EV will borrow from the Taycan's 800-volt battery architecture. Porsche plans to offer the Macan in two battery sizes upon launch. The current Taycan architecture allows for fast charging at a maximum of 270 kW. With rumours of Porsche setting up a CKD plant in Malaysia catering for SUVs (likely the Cayenne and Macan), can we expect the Macan EV to be CKD, or is that one leap of faith too much? While we have not heard any further developments of the plant materializing we've also come to understand that in the time of COVID, progress is slower which could however be to Malaysia's benefit. With plans for the plant presumably still in progress, is it possible to also make provisions for an EV assembly line or at least put the foundations in place for it to happen in the near future? Over to you Porsche AG. To add fuel to the fire, the Low Carbon Mobility Footprint Blueprint has an allocation for: support for manufacturers of local EVs which could also be expanded to include CKD operations of EVs. Both of the above initiatives (at least on paper) do provide the initial building blocks for the setting up of CKD operations for Porsche EVs in Malaysia. Add to that the Porsche and Shell collaboration for a fast-charging EV network throughout Malaysia and it does make for some hopeful conjecture. Visually the Macan EV should be discernible from the Macan ICEV. Initial images depict a different front end, slimmer headlights, sans the traditional grille of the ICEV Macan's. We'll bring you updates about the BEV Macan as we sight them but don't expect too many updates until after the 2021 ICEV Porsche Macan is launched later this year. *Image credit for the Porsche Macan EV Prototype to motortrend.com For more latest car news, reviews, car buying guides and videos visit us at Carlist.my Auto News.
