Perodua 2016 Sales Surpasses 150,000 Units; 20,000 Bezzas Delivered

Perodua has sold 150,900 vehicles in the first nine months of 2016, spurred by strong demand for its newly-launched Bezza sedan.

Despite shrinkage in its year-on-year sales volume, which stood at 157,500 in the corresponding period of 2015, Perodua continues to command 36.1% of the overall market.

“On a year-to-year comparison, we are cautiously optimistic that we will further reduce the sales deficit gap which currently stands at 4.2%,” said Perodua President and CEO, Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Standout performer of the Perodua line-up is none other than the all-new Bezza, which Perodua already registered 20,000 units of since its launch on 21 July 2016. It is the highest ever delivery rate recorded by any model in the first 90 days since its launch.

As recently as 30 August 2016, Perodua had delivered 10,000 units of the Bezza with 25,000 orders in its books.

The Bezza’s strong performance is nevertheless insufficient to prevent a year-on-year decrease of third quarter sales. This year, Perodua sold 45,300 vehicles from July to September, compared to 49,000 vehicles during the same period last year.

As a result of the softened demand, Perodua’s production output has accordingly contracted by 9%, dropping from 168,300 in the first nine months of 2015 to 153,700 vehicles over the same period in 2016.

“We believe the fourth quarter of the year will continue to be challenging due to the current economic conditions as well as competitors’ sales activities,” Aminar said.
