Monorail Coach Tyre Catches Fire, Traffic Delays Expected [UPDATE]

Berita Kereta

In an official media statement released by RapidKL today, the Rapid Rail monorail service is temporarily suspended from 8:50 am due to two separate incidents. Motorists are advised to avoid Jalan Tun Razak with traffic being backed up along Jalan Istana, Jalan Damansara, and the Sultan Iskandar Highway (formerly the Mahameru Highway). Traffic on Jalan Kuching coming from Selayang Baru is also affected.

[UPDATE] The Rapid Rail monorail service has resumed at 12.15pm although operating on degraded mode due to faults of the signaling system.

The first incident is caused by one of the rubber tyres of a two-car train catching fire at Titiwangsa station, resulting in heavy smoke to be released. No one was on board the train at the time.

As for incident two, a four-car train became stranded between Imbi station and Bukit Bintang station due to technical problems. A rescue train was dispatched to push the stranded train to Imbi station to clear the passengers.

Rapid Rail is carrying out an internal investigation into both incidents and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
