Mercedes-AMG A 45 S and CLA 45 S To Launch On June 1st Via FB and YouTube Live

2020 is not a great year for automakers around the world, as many of their best laid plans have been laid to waste. But for some, it’s an opportunity to improvise, adapt, and overcome – and that usually comes in the form of livestream launches, whether they are global or local. The next local launch we’re looking forward to is one by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, as they have stated that they plan to roll out two compact AMG models on June 1st.

While the German automaker wasn’t specific with what models were being launched, there are very few AMG models that can be regarded as “compact” – and so like many other publications we’re expecting it to be the latest A 45 4MATIC+ and the CLA 45 4MATIC+, with both most likely coming in the top-spec S variant.

For now, these two range-topping models have been seemingly absent from the broader range available in Malaysia as we’ve had to make do with the A35 hatchback and sedan variants. As with AMGs, the bigger the number, the better – and the 45 in the name refers to the M133 engine that powers both of these compact AMGs.

It’s a turbocharged 2.0-litre mill which pushes 421 PS and 500 Nm of torque from 5,000 rpm in the “S” models, which we can expect here. As the 4MATIC+ implies, power will be delivered to all four wheels through an AMG Speedshift DCT 8G, essentially an eight-speed dual clutch transmission. The S variants also include a Drift Mode which shuffles more power to the rear wheels, as well as larger six-pot brake callipers for the front wheels – both as part of the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.

Early adopters for the new A 45 S will most likely be purchasing it in Edition 1 guise, which will include various aerodynamic pieces, a larger spoiler, and faux vents for a more aggressive look. On the other hand, the CLA 45 S may be on an order only basis. We like the A 45 S in the Sun yellow shade as shown here, but it will also be made available in Designo Mountain Grey.
