Mazda CX-3 Returns 16km/L Under WLTC Test Cycle

The Mazda CX-3's fuel economy has been officially tested and certified under the Worldwide-Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC). The certification applies to the Mazda CX-3 equipped with the SkyActiv-G 2.0 petrol engine.

The Worldwide-Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) is a test cycle that consists of three driving conditions: urban (WLTC-L), suburban (WLTC-M) and highway (WLTC-H). Compared to the JC08 test cycle, the new WLTP test cycle aims to deliver more realistic fuel consumption reading as the test cycle includes factors such as gear shifting, total car weight with driver and passengers, fuel quality, tire selection and ambient temperature.

Under the JC08 test cycle, the Mazda CX-3 SkyActiv-G 2.0 2WD returned 17 km/L. As for the new WLTC test cycle, the Mazda returned 16 km/L. Looking closer, the Mazda returned 12.2 km/L, 16.8 km/L and 18.0 km/L under the urban, suburban and highway test cycles respectively.

The 4WD variant of the Mazda CX-3 managed 16.6 km/L under the JC08 test cycle. Moving on to the WLTC test cycle, the Mazda CX-3 4WD did 15.2 km/L. Under the urban, suburban and highway test cycles, the Mazda returned 11.6 km/L, 15.8 km/L and 17.4 km/L respectively.

According to Mazda, brochures for the Mazda CX-3 will carry fuel consumption reading under the WLTC test cycle as soon as this coming summer.
