Japan's annual Car of the Year awards (JCOTY) is a world-renowned awards organisation which accords cars with honours for being the best car of the year.
Established in 1980, the body has awarded many trophies to great cars such as Volvo's XC40 in 2018 as well as Toyota's RAV-4 who came out tops last year.
The all-time biggest winners are Honda with 11 accolades with Toyota coming in second with eight and Mazda in third with six.
And now, the finalists for the 2020 Japanese Car of the Year have just been announced, and it includes a few full-electric cars. The ten finalists have been shortlisted from 33 nominations. These cars will now move on to the final stage, where they will be further evaluated by the supervisory board, who consist of automotive journalists from Japan.
The JCOTY award will be awarded at the end of the month at Sodegaura Forest Raceway, Japan.
The 2020-2021 finalists are:

- Audi e-tron Sportback
- BMW Alpina B3
- BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe
- Land Rover Defender
- Honda Jazz
- Mazda MX-30
- Nissan Kicks
- Subaru Levorg
- Toyota Yaris / Yaris Cross / GR Yaris
