Hyundai Ioniq Previewed for the First Time in Malaysia at My Auto Fest 2016

The Ioniq was first introduced in March of this year at the Geneva Motor Show and is not officially for sale yet. My Auto Fest 2016 is held from the 20th to the 22nd May 2016 at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) and offers a rare chance to get up close with the Hyundai Ioniq.

Hyundai's Ioniq is the world’s first vehicle to offer three distinct electrified powertrains on a single, dedicated vehicle platform. The Ioniq is available in other markets such as North America as either an all-electric, hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

In the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, the Ioniq utilises the firm’s Kappa 1.6 direct-injected Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine which pumps out circa 105PS and 147Nm of torque. In the North American spec, the engine is supplemented by a permanent magnet synchronous motor which adds a further 43.5PS and 170Nm of torque.

The net system output is rated at 139bhp, connected to a six-speed dual-clutch EcoShift transmission. The motor draws power from a 1.56kWh (240v) Lithium-Ion polymer battery.

A MacPherson strut front setup and multi-link rear end is split by a 2700mm wheelbase, identical to that of the (fourth-gen) Toyota Prius. 

Hyundai’s emphasis when designing the Ioniq was to blend modernity and efficiency, to this effect the Ioniq sports a 0.24 Cd factor thanks to carefully formed surfaces of the metalwork.
