Geneva 2018: Mitsubishi To Debut Facelifted Outlander PHEV

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will debut two new models at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, namely the e-Evolution Concept and this, the facelifted Outlander PHEV, which is expected to hit European markets by Q3 of 2018.

With cumulative sales of over 140,000 units worldwide, the Outlander PHEV has become one of MMC’s most successful models.

First launched in 2013, the facelifted Outlander PHEV now boasts a number of updates – a complete redesign of its powertrain, sharper driving dynamics, a more refined interior, and subtle design changes, which Mitsubishi claim - make it both a better EV and SUV at the same time.

The biggest highlight is a new 2.4-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine which replaces the previous Otto cycle 2.0-litre. It allows for higher torque, smoother operation, and overall higher efficiency.

The internal combustion is aided by two electric motors at the front and rear axles, of which, the rear motor output is increased by 10 percent, while the generator output is also increased by 10 percent.

Elsewhere, the (Lithium-ion) battery capacity, has been increased to 13.8 kWh, from 12 kWh, while the battery output has been increased by a further 10 percent.

There are two additional drive modes, "Sport" which sharpens the car's dynamics, and "Snow" for snow-covered or slippery surfaces, which joins current “Normal” and “4WD Lock” drive modes. 

Aesthetically, the Outlander PHEV is fitted with new LED headlamps, a redesigned front grille, new front (centre cover) skid plate, and redesigned fog-lamps bezels. The Outlander will also feature new multi-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels, and a redesigned rear spoiler.

On the inside, the Outlander will feature a new ‘quilted’ leather upholstery, updated seats with better hip-support, revised switchgear, and instrument panel, and the addition of rear air-con vents.
