Frankfurt 2017: Mercedes-Benz X-Class - A First For Everything
Berita KeretaLive from the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show, we are getting our first look at Merc's new pick-up in person.
Mercedes-Benz first unveiled its first-ever pickup truck called the X-Class back in July. This new pickup truck from Mercedes-Benz is developed on the Nissan Navara NP300 platform.
The new X-Class will be challenging the Volkswagen Amarok in South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, UK and Australia.
Despite being offered as a right-hand drive model, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has no immediate plans to introduce the X-Class here. “We need to differentiate ourselves form the mass market. First of all, our products have a different substance and it makes no sense to trying to compete with them (mass market brands) for that segment. That’s not our home ground,” said Mark Raine, Vice-President for Sales and Marketing, Passenger Cars at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.
Power will come from a range of Nissan and Mercedes-Benz engines. Base Mercedes-Benz X-Class models will be powered by Nissan's 2.3-litre YS23 four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. Mercedes-Benz is also looking to introduce the X-Class with a V6 turbodiesel engine with all-wheel drive at a later date.
