BMW To Launch A China-only 1 Series Sedan

Initially previewed as the BMW Concept Compact Sedan at the Guangzhou Motor Show 2015, this first ever BMW 1 Series Sedan is BMW’s answer to the Audi A3 Sedan.

Produced by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd exclusively for the Chinese domestic market only, the 1 Series Sedan was developed by BMW’s headquarters in Germany, with involvement of Chinese engineers.

The company adds that the 1 Series Sedan has been tuned to cope with the many different road and climate conditions found in China, and that BMW engineers have made a lot of specific fine-tuning and improvements according to the Chinese customers' habits and vehicle-use environment.

Technical details are short, and BMW did not elaborate on any specific launch timing or pricing details for the car yet, but the 1 Series Sedan should share the same engine and transmission options with the 1 Series hatchback (not sure about it being rear-wheel drive, or front-wheel drive though).

Prices for the 1 Series hatchback ranged from 256,000 Yuan for a Peugeot-developed 1.6-litre turbocharged 118i (different from our newer generation BMW-developed 1.5-litre turbocharged 118i) to 496,000 Yuan for the 3.0-litre turbocharged M135i.
