BMW Malaysia Launches 520i Luxury And 530e M Sport

For those who have been wondering why BMW's lineup for the 5 Series has looked surprisingly lean since launch, wonder no more. BMW Malaysia has finally decided to introduce the 520i Luxury and 530e M Sport variants to the 5 Series lineup - the former which represents an entry level variant, and the latter being a more sporty proposition to the 530e that we know well.

The 520i Luxury is being launched at RM 328,800 - which puts it on par pricing wise with the 530e Sport. The 530e M Sport is going for RM 338,800, meaning customers need only pay an RM 10,000 premium over the regular 530e Sport in order to enjoy a wealth of new trim pieces and a more aggressive wheel design. 

For the 520i Luxury, the engine is perhaps the largest distinction between it and the other variants. Powering it is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp and 290 Nm of torque, sending all of its power to the rear wheels through a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The main trim differences are as follows:

• 18-inch Light Alloy V-Spoke 684 Wheels
• Sensatec Dashboard
• Chrome Exhaust Tail Pipe Finishers

The 530e M Sport gets the same hybrid powertrain as the 530e Sport, meaning that it pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a total system output of 252 hp and 400 Nm of torque, all channeled to the rear wheels through the same ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. Trim differences between this and the regular 530e are as follows:

• Front Grille with Active Air Stream
• 19-inch M Light Alloy Double-Spoke 664 M Wheels
• M sport Brake Callipers
• Two-Sided Exhaust Tail Pipe Finishers In Light Chrome
• Various M Badges
• Aluminium Rhombicle and Pearl Chrome interior trims
• M Leather Steering Wheel
• M-specific Pedals
• M Sports Seats

For these two models, the remainder of the items and features remain identical to that of other variants in the model range. As a quick recap, the 5 Series range now grows in size by two variants to a total of five, with three different powertrain options and four different trim levels. The pricing is as follows:
