ASEAN NCAP: Ford Everest Gets 5-Star Rating

Berita Kereta

Ford’s new third-generation Everest SUV was recently awarded a maximum 5-star crash safety rating for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), and a 4-star crash safety rating for Child Occupant Protection (COP) with an 81 per cent compliance by the ASEAN NCAP.

The crash test for the Everest was conducted by ASEAN NCAP’s partner laboratory in Australia at the Australasian NCAP Crash Lab facility in October 2015. As previously mentioned here, ASEAN NCAP’s Melaka facility lacks the proper equipment to test heavy vehicles. Because of that ASEAN NCAP has carried over the ANCAP’s result and verified their findings with the Ranger’s result, which the Everest is based on. The Everest model which was crash tested was equipped with seven airbags and electronic stability control (ESC).

The Everest managed to score 15.38 points out of a maximum of 16 points in the AOP category with ESC equipped in all variants. ESC is a pre-requisite feature in obtaining a 5-Star crash safety rating. As for its COP result, the Everest performed better than the Ranger with an 81 per cent compliance, although its high percentage point still relegates it in the 4-star category for COP.

It remains to be seen what sort of specification the Ford Everest will sport when it is launched here later this year. That being said, considering just how well equipped the facelifted Ranger was when it arrived in Malaysia, we wouldn’t be surprised if it will live up to expectations.
