ASEAN NCAP: Five Stars For All-New 2016 Toyota Innova
Berita KeretaThe upcoming all-new 2016 Toyota Innova, due to be launched in Malaysia shortly before the year ends, possibly in late-Q3 or early-Q4, has been awarded a five-star rating by ASEAN NCAP. The rating however, is only applicable for models equipped with electronic stability control (ESC), also known as VSA in Toyota’s marketing terminology. All other Innova models were given a four-star rating.
The model tested by ASEAN NCAP was an Indonesian market model.
The Innova scored 14.10 points in adult occupant protection, out of a maximum of 16.00 points. Scores above 14.00 points are within the five-star range, but since ESC, as well as seat belt reminder is compulsory for a five-star rating, only higher-end models equipped with ESC are given the full five-star rating.
As for child occupant protection, the Innova, which has ISOFIX with top-tether mounts fitted as standard, scored 79 percent, giving it a four-star rating.
The test was done at the Japan Automobile Research Institute, a partner lab for ASEAN NCAP, as the 1,698 kg Innova exceeded the weight limit of MIROS PC3’s own lab in Melaka.
The Malaysian market Innova is expected to be locally assembled at Toyota’s Assembly Services Sdn. Bhd. plant in Shah Alam. Prices and specifications will only be known as we get closer to its expected launch date in late-2016. The promo video below is for the Indonesian market Innova.
