All-New Volvo S60 Unveiled, First-Ever Volvo To Be Built In The USA
Berita KeretaVolvo Cars have just unveiled the all-new third generation S60 at the company’s first-ever US manufacturing facility in Charleston, South Carolina.
The launch of the all-new S60 coincides with the inauguration of the Charleston plant, responsible to build the first-ever Volvo in the US.
Like the 60 series and 90 series cars, the all-new Volvo S60 also features the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform.
As for the powertrain options, the all-new S60 can be had with two twin-charged plug-in hybrid powertrains; a new T6 Twin Engine that is capable of delivering 340 hp and the T8 Twin Engine that delivers 400 hp. Other engines, including the turbocharged T5 and twin-charged T6 petrol engines will also be available at launch.
Volvo mentioned that the key markets for the all-new S60 will be the US and China. Seeing that both markets don’t favour a diesel engine, Volvo has dropped the diesel option for the all-new S60.
Similar to the all-new Volvo V60, the new sedan brethren will come standard with an extended list of safety equipment. One of which is City Safety with Autobrake, currently the only system on the market that is able to recognize cyclists, pedestrians and large animals. City Safety with Autobrake is also able to engage autobraking to mitigate collision with oncoming vehicles.
The optional Pilot Assist system has been improved, now able to take corners better than before. The all-new S60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation and Oncoming Lane Mitigation.
Inside, the all-new Volvo S60 features the identical tablet-style touch screen Sensus Connect infotainment system as other current Volvo models. The Sensus Connect system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Customers have the upgrade option called Polestar Engineered, developed by Volvo’s in-house electric performance arm, Polestar. Upgrades to the all-new S60 include improved brakes, suspension, engine control unit and wheels. Power is up by 15 hp and 30 Nm compared to the regular S60 T8, bringing the output to 415 hp and 670 Nm.
