All-New Nissan NP300 Navara – Full Specifications Revealed

Following our earlier post on the tentative specifications of the all-new Nissan NP300 Navara, Edaran Tan Chong Motor has released more details on its 2.5-litre variable geometry turbo commonrail turbo diesel pick-up truck.

Unlike the outgoing D40 generation Navara, there will be no 4x2 models in the latest NP300 generation Navara’s model line-up. Also dropped is the extended single-cab (King Cab) variant.

In total, the NP300 Navara will have six variants, including one Single Cab variant, all of them 4WD.

The all-new NP300 Navara will be imported from Thailand, while the outgoing D40 Navara is locally assembled.

Rather disappointingly, many of the unique features that Nissan have been boasting in its pre-launch campaign are only available in the most expensive VL model. Prices have yet to be announced but rumour has it that it will be very expensive, probably above RM120k, but don't blame Nissan for that as it has more to do with the falling value of our Ringgit.

The much talked about 190 PS engine for example, is only available on the VL model. All other variants will get only a detuned 163 PS engine (403 Nm torque) of the same 2.5-litre capacity. That’s even less powerful than the outgoing D40 generation Navara!

The outgoing D40 generation Navara has a 174 PS engine for all 4WD double-cab models.

The similar 2.5-litre engine capacity Mitsubishi Triton trounce it with its 178 PS engine, available as standard for all but the two lowest grade variant.

Although non-VL NP300 Navara models are down on power, they claw back some ground with a marginally torquier engine, 403 Nm at 2,000 rpm versus the Mitsubishi’s 400 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The wider ratio spread of the seven-speed torque converter automatic transmission should in theory, compensate a little bit on the non-VL models power deficit.

Other unique selling points like LED headlamps, leather seats, and 8-way power operated driver’s seat are also only available on the VL model.

However we do applaud Nissan for fitting electronic stability control (ESC), or as Nissan calls it – Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) on the top four variants. The two lowest E grade double-cab and Single Cab model are aimed purely at commercial users and the omission is understandable.
