All-New G29 BMW Z4 - Initial Details Released

BMW has released some preliminary information of the all-new G29 Z4. The concept version of the Z4 was first shown to public at the Concours d’Elegance over a year ago.

Compared to the concept version that was shown at Pebble Beach last year, the production-ready version is largely similar, down to the vertically aligned headlights, large BMW kidney grille, and large front air intakes. The similarities continue with the sides, as the G29 Z4 features large air breathers on the front fenders while the rear gets a distinctive integrated spoiler.

Power comes from a turbocharged straight-six that does 340 hp in the Z4 M40i guise. This performance-oriented model also gets sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system, and an electronically controlled M Sport rear differential. Despite featuring these M bits, don’t hold your breath for a Z4 M, as the company has stated that the business case for a Z4 M is too small.

Pictured here is the Z4 M40i First Edition, which combines the eye-catching Frozen Orange metallic paint job, BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line package, and double spoke 19-inch alloy wheels for a rather special looking convertible. The First Edition version of the G29 Z4 also gets Vernasca black leather trim with decorative stitching and electronically adjustable seats with memory function. Optionally, buyers can add ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon audio system. Other features include adaptive LED headlights with matrix function for the high beam, BMW Head-Up Display, and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional instrument cluster and infotainment display set up.

The Munich-based firm will release more variants, technical information, and equipment details on 19 September.
