All-New 2018 Honda Accord Announced, First Ever Turbocharged Model

The all-new 2018 Honda Accord has just been previewed by Honda. A total of three variants will be available, include two turbocharged models and a hybrid.

Dimension wise, the 2018 Honda Accord features a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model, though overall height is lower and body is wider. On top of that, the overall length has been shortened as well. Similar to the Honda Civic, the Honda Accord receives a sweeping C-pillar that gives the new sedan a fastback-like outlook.

Up front, the Honda Accord features Honda's signature chrome wing front grille, flanked by a pair of LED headlights and LED front fog lights. The rear end features LED light-pipe taillights with dual muffler tips. All 2018 Honda Accord variants come standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, though buyers of the Accord 1.5T and 2.0T can opt for larger 19-inch wheels.

For the first time ever, the Honda Accord can be had with a choice of turbocharged engines. The first is a 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that outputs 192 hp and 260 Nm of torque to the front wheels via a CVT-type automatic. The second turbocharged engine is a larger 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, outputting 252 hp and 370 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 10-speed automatic. Both engines can also be had with a six-speed manual transmission.

Honda is also offering a hybrid variant of the 2018 Accord. Power comes from a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine, mated to Honda two-motor hybrid system. The two-motor system operates without the need for a regular automatic, relying instead on an eCVT (electronic continuously variable transmission). Further details about the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid will be released closer to the car's launch.

Inside, the 2018 Honda Accord receives a 7-inch TFT display for the driver and an optional revamped 8-inch Display Audio infotainment system with physical volume and tuning knobs. Similar to recent Honda models, the 2018 Accord comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Elsewhere, the Honda Accord features the next-generation HondaLink telematics with emergency roadside assistance, remote locking/unlocking and engine start, stolen vehicle tracking, remote diagnostics and speed tracking.

Additionally, both turbocharged variants of the 2018 Honda Accord will feature a new 6-inch heads up display with selectable information, including speed, engine rpm, navigation and Traffic Sign Recognition. On top of that, buyers can choose to have wireless charging, automatic Bluetooth connectivity with NFC, in-car 4G LTE connectivity and Wi-Fi system updates.

Honda Sensing will come standard for all 2018 Honda Accord models, which includes technologies like Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow and new Traffic Sign Recognition. Optionally, buyers can opt for Blind Spot Information, front and rear parking sensors, Cross Traffic Monitor and Driver Awareness Monitor. A multi-angle reverse camera comes as standard fitment as well, on top of VSA with Traction Control, TPMS and eight airbags including new driver and front passenger knee airbags.

The 2018 Honda Accord will be produced at Honda's Marysville plant in Ohio for the North American market. Both turbocharged engines are made in Honda's facility in Anna, while its CVT transmission is assembled at the company's Russells Point, Ohio plant. The all-new 10-speed automatic is produced at Honda's Tallapoosa, Georgia plant.

Further details will be revealed once the market launch happens later this year.
