All-New 2016 Audi A4 (B9) Will Make Global Debut This Month

Numerous spy photos and videos of the all-new 2016 Audi A4 (B9) have been poured all over the web lately, and now, the world can finally put a finger on an official date for a debut: June 29, 2015.

According to our friends over at Motoring, the all-new A4 will make its first official appearance at a special event taking place at Audi’s home in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The German premium sedan segment is set for a shake-up, with the A4’s direct rivals – the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class and recently facelifted BMW 3 Series – set to face fresh competition from the four-ringed carmaker.

On top of the sharper and cleaner design language, the next-gen A4 will ride on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform (as in the all-new Q7), designed to underpin all Audi models from the A4 and up. The prime FWD configuration will be carried forward, while of course various quattro versions of the car will offer Audi’s popular all-wheel drive system.

And just like many of its competitors, the all-new Audi A4 is expected to have undergone massive weight shavings – reported to be up to 100kgs taken off – in an attempt to boost the car’s performance credentials to better rival a BMW 3 Series. Don’t forget, the all-new Q7 was able to lose a massive 325kg against its predecessor.

Where powertrain matters, Audi will also be making available what it calls the most efficient 2.0-litre petrol engine in its class: a TFSI four-pot that produces some 190PS and 320Nm of torque. That’s slightly less power than the current 2.0-litre TFSI (225PS, 350Nm), but fuel consumption is expected to be slashed right down to 5.0-litres/100km vs. its predecessors 6.7-litres/100km claim.
