2021 Nissan Navara Facelift Unveiled - Top Variant Pro-4X Previewed Ahead Of Launch

Nissan's official distributor in Malaysia, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), has previewed the latest 2021 Nissan Navara facelift in the range-topping Pro-4X form ahead of its official launch on April 16.

The range-topping Pro-4X, which is a first for the Navara nameplate, features a more rugged yet stylish exterior and includes an array of Nissan Intelligent Mobility driver-assisted features as well as safety systems, making this the most advanced Navara ever.

Most noticeable exterior changes include a more pronounced front end, including a taller hood,  large black front grille, a la the Nissan Titan (Nissan calls it the Interlock grille), and headlights with four projector LED cubes in the housing surrounded by C shaped daytime running lights. Non-reflective orange accents at the bottom of the new front bumper and wheel arches are also new.

It also receives the same facelift beautification at the rear, continuing the C-shaped theme with taillights that have a C light guide design, a beefier bumper, and a redesigned tailgate. The new bumper receives a welcome integrated step ladder type feature which helps provide easier access to the truck bed. 

Speaking of truck beds, the Pro-4X's bed is now equipped with a new Utili-Track Channel system with two channels and four heavy-duty forged aluminium cleats that lock anywhere along the channel to secure even the trickiest of loads firmly. 

The Pro-4X's exterior also comes with an aggressive blacked-out theme, featuring black fender flares, door handles, door mirrors, roof rails, aerodynamic side steps as well as new 17-inch black wheels laced with Yokohama's Geolandar All-terrain tyres.

Completing the new look on the exterior is the Navara stamp on the tailgate as well as the new red Nissan emblem at the front grille, tailgate, and wheel caps.

Refinement-wise, the 2021 Navara includes an acoustic laminated glass to help with quieting exterior noises. Comfort improvements continue with increased amounts of sound-deadening insulation. 

For a better piloting experience, a new Nissan steering wheel and improved styling of the instrument panel highlighting the 8-inch navigation screen and a 7-inch higher-resolution TFT screen has been put in place, whereas passengers can enjoy new rear seats with upgraded seat cushions and back shapes. For added convenience, passengers in the back can now also utilize the new rear armrest with built-in cup holders to store beverages or smartphones. 4 USB ports (two at the front and one in the rear) have also been equipped in the new Navara.

To keep up with the competition in terms of safety, the 2021 Navara comes with 6-airbags, an intelligent forward collision system, intelligent emergency braking, intelligent around-view monitor (360 camera angle), and an offroad monitoring system that can help check and detect obstacles. The off-road monitoring system automatically comes alive through the Pro-4X's 8-inch touchscreen display when the 4WD system is engaged, which helps confirm surrounding obstacles when off-roading. 

Other noticeable parts of the safety gear include intelligent driver alertness, lane departure warning, intelligent lane intervention and blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, intelligent moving object detection, and high beam assist.

All these impressive new features are met with an unglamorous one, however, in the form of the soldiering on of the YD25 2.5-litre DOHC intercooler turbodiesel engine, which has 190PS and 450Nm of torque.  The engine is mated to the existing 7-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. The only reconciliation is that the YD25 provides similar output to the YS23 2.3-litre turbodiesel mill, currently being used in Thailand.

Back on to new features, the Pro-4X is equipped with a new rear electronic locking differential, trailer sway assist system, and rear multilink system suspension with dual-rate coil springs which helps reduce body toss regardless of loading conditions. A strengthened rear axle has also helped with payload capacity, coming in at 1.1 tonnes. A new steering rack now helps with agility and maneuvering at low speeds.

The 2021 Nissan Navara Pro-4X is available in 4 colours, including Stealth Grey, Burning Red, Pearl White, and Black Star.
