2021 Hyundai Kona Electric Coming In November To Malaysia - Three Variants - Priced From Under RM150k

Hyundai Sime Darby Motors has confirmed that the 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric will be launched in Malaysia in November 2021.  Three variants will be made available and pricing is expected to start from under RM150k. 

The new 2021 Kona Electric will be the first fully electric model to be launched by Hyundai in Malaysia. 

Three variants will be made available. The basic version featuring a 39.2 kWh battery with a driving range of 305 kilometres will come in two guises, the Kona Electric e-lite and the Kona Electric e-plus. The range-topper with a 64 kWh battery with a range of 484 kilometres completes the Kona Electric variants on offer in Malaysia. 

Pricing is estimated to start from under RM150,000 for the basic model taking into account the SST exemptions and the Budget 2022 announcement on the adoption of EVs in Malaysia. 

“With the newly announced import and excise duty exemptions, we envisage greater interest in EVs in Malaysia. The arrival of the Kona Electric is timely as it will provide more choice for consumers who want a more sustainable and greener ride option to help reduce carbon footprint,” said Mr. Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM.

The two basic variants of the 2021 Kona Electric will get a single 136 PS motor while the range-topper gets a beefier 204 PS motor. All three variants will have the same 395 Nm of torque. A 9.9 second 0-100 km/h for the basic variants and 7.9 seconds for the 64 kWh variant should see the Kona Electric winning most traffic light to traffic light drag races.  

Charging time using a 100 kW DCFC is rated at 47 minutes from 10 to 80 percent. The 2021 Kona Electric will also feature an optional 11 kW three-phase on-board charger for AC charging stations or wall boxes installed at homes or residential properties. You will also be able to charge your Kona Electric using a regular household socket using the ICCB-cable (in-cable control box).

Three colours are available:

• Chalk White
• Dive in Jeju Two Tone
• Misty Jungle Two Tone

Customers also have the option of a black or grey interior.
