2019 Updates Audi R8 Unveiled – Motorsports Inspired Tech For The Road
Berita KeretaAudi has announced an updated version of its R8 supercar which is scheduled to go on sale in Europe starting early 2019.
Drawing from Audi’s experience in sports car racing, the 2019 Audi R8 now enlists a number of updates inspired directly from the Audi R8 GT3 and GT4 racing programs. In fact, the road-going version – available in both Coupe and Spyder versions – share some 50 percent of its components with the Audi R8 LMS GT3 which was recently unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
Chief of which is an updated engine oil-cooling system (with its own radiator) which is fed by a dry-sump oil lubrication system lifted directly from its motorsports program. The pump module operates with multiple suction stages and assures proper lubrication under all conditions – including during lateral acceleration of around 1.5 G, which is possible in the R8.
The R8 will remain powered by a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 which will be available in two power outputs. The current model R8 V10 and V10 Plus produce 540 PS and 610 PS respectively; it remains to be seen if the power output will increase in the updated model.
The steering system has also been retuned to offer greater precision and steering feedback. Buyers have a choice of the standard electromechanical power steering or the optional dynamic steering system. Three new drive programs – Dry, Wet, and Snow – have also been added to the existing suite of drive modes.
Audi claims braking performance has also been improved: the top-of-the-line model will brake from 200-0 km in up to 5 meters shorter – courtesy of an update to the R8’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
In terms of appearance, the updated 2019 model carries subtle changes to the “Singleframe” grille which has a wider, flatter line now. Up top, flat slits in the hood are meant to be reminiscent of the Audi Sport Quattro model. Elsewhere, the new front splitter is now wider, as is the air vent grille at the rear.
Customers will have a choice of two new colours – Kemora Gray and Ascari Blue – as well as three exterior packages depending on the engine variant; these packages add various highlights to the front splitter, the side trims, and the diffuser. The R8 is fitted as standard with 19-inch wheels or optionally offered with ‘ultralight’ 20-inch fully milled five V-spoke wheels and ceramic brakes.
